Bunny on a Surgery Table is a performance short film that invites the viewer as an imaginary friend to follow Bunny's life on the surface of the earth. This personal, autobiographical work explores the artist's breast reduction surgery through the form of a bunny — life before it and after it. Bunny intimately invites her friend to wonder at how she survives, performs, and gets through life — its challenges and joys. Along the way, Bunny encounters the male gaze that sexualises everything around her, trying to intrude into Bunny's reality. Bunny escapes the forces lurking in her surroundings through rampaging, bathing, and a sweaty band rehearsal space — trying to find connection with herself and the world. Bunny on a Surgery Table examines the life of a vulval-chested being on stages and behind them: across the terrains of illness and recovery, everyday life and work, connection and disconnection, body image and body dysphoria. The work explores what kind of art can emerge when the body and mind have been sucked dry — while at the same time, tenderly and wildly, trying to tip its surroundings off balance.
